Community Event Volunteer

Our volunteer opportunities are for 16+. If you have any questions, please email volunteer@tellingtales.org

Are you a keen reader? Do you love children's literature? Are you passionate about youth literacy in our community and would love to meet the best in the Canadian literacy world? Does seeing the faces of young people being introduced to a world of reading inspire you? If you answered yes, the Community Event Volunteer role is for you.

We are looking for adults over the age of 16 who can provide 3 or 4 hour shifts per event. It will be primarily weekday with an occasional evening and weekend. Volunteers should plan to attend at least two events annually, have a positive and friendly demeanour, assist in event set up and take down, registration and traffic control, distribute surveys, introduce and thank authors as required.

Festival Ambassador

Your role is to help us spread the word about Telling Tales and the many activities associated with this event. Each month, you will receive a communication with some suggested tasks to which we would appreciate your assistance. We anticipate that this role will not take more then 1-2 hours to perform a month.

Note: This job runs from March until September - it is not a job you have to do at a particular time or place.

For example, one month it might be to tell 10 friends to save the date or print, post and share the save the date flyer. Another month, we might encourage you to get any children or teens in your life to join the Telling Tales Press Club. We will provide you with links, templates and make it as easy as possible to help us get the message out so even more people get engaged in all of the activities associated with Telling Tales.

We don’t expect you can do all the tasks, but having Ambassadors in the community will help us to create the best 11th Anniversary Festival ever!

Festival Saturday Set-Up

Come the day before the festival (Saturday September 14th) and help get the Westfield and Rockton sites ready for the Telling Tales Festival. There is a lot to do and the tasks are suitable for the strong and not so strong. We start at 9:00 a.m. and typically finish by lunch time with a pizza lunch of thanks. You will likely be placed in one of four teams depending on your interest and abilities. If you love swinging a hammer, tent set up might be for you. If you like sitting and rolling posters, then odd jobs might be more your pace. There is table and chair set up and sign placements. Great jobs for teens over the age of 16 as well as adults
